On November 21st, the awards ceremony took place. Brazil Design Awards, The event featured the main highlights, recognitions, and participation from designers throughout Brazil. Ana Couto was the general president of the jury, which included dozens of professionals who worked for months to select the best of the best. Below is the speech Ana prepared to celebrate the evening.
Today, we are here to celebrate.
Let's celebrate that we are together at this party.
Celebrate successful projects.
To celebrate the efforts of companies that have made design a valuable tool.
Celebrating the fact that Brazilian design is taking shape, face, and heart.
This is the 9th year of Brazil Design Awards.
We are also here to express our gratitude.
First, I would like to thank... ABEDESIGN And to Gustavo Greco for the invitation to be here as the general president of the Award. I am very proud to be able to contribute.
I would like to thank the 10 category presidents who donated their time and expertise to judge so many entries: Alex Guazelli, Bruno Porto, Danilo Cid, Fabricio Dore, Gisela Schulzinger, Gringo Cardia, Guta Orofino, Leonardo Lattavo, Lilian Raco, and Raphael Abreu. I would also like to thank Camila and Larissa, who are unsurpassed in their abilities to make all of this happen.
But none of this would have been possible without the engagement of the professionals who submitted more than 870 projects, 246 companies, self-employed professionals and institutions, from more than 15 states across the country. We had an increase in submissions of 40% compared to 2018. We had a record popular vote, with more than 65,000 votes.
Tonight, we are celebrating 340 award-winning projects;
140 companies with gold, silver and bronze medals, and
3 exclusive trophies – the Grand Prix – for the most outstanding performers.
This is a night for us to celebrate together.
I'm happy to see this evolution, which I could almost call a "movement".
I say "movement" because design carries within it a certain belief, an ethos of those who graduate in this profession.
We know that all of us, when we enter college, are passionate about this profession.
We understand that this profession has enormous potential.
A profession filled with purpose.
Purpose of solving problems,
to make the most beautiful objects,
to communicate through images in a striking way.
A profession that trains the process and catapults creativity.
It needs to combine form, function, and we can also talk about solution.
It blends technology, anthropology, science, and art.
Design is growing as a profession. Every day we see more design companies and professionals.
Design is growing in value. More and more importance is being given to aesthetics.
Design is growing as a service, which is revolutionizing the business world.
Design grows by creating a country's cultural identity.
I'm sure this award reinforced all of those roles.
And it reinforced what we have united here today in this celebration:
Our goal is that design is creating more value for Brazil.
Put Ana Couto.
